Recently is published an investment plan for the extraction of hydrocarbons in the area of the “Protected Landscape Vjose-Narte”, proclaimed as such in year 2004. This area holds high landscape values, is rich on natural biodiversity and it is estimated to be the second most important place for wintering of birds in Albania.  In the same time this area provides great opportunities for the sustainable development of its natural resources through sustainable livelihood activities such as tourism, sustainable fishing, organic agriculture etc. Thus, such investments can negatively impact the natural environment and the sustainable development future of the area. Therefore, we require careful handling of this issue by the relevant institutions and other interest groups, and public disclosure of the environmental impact assessment document, in order to prevent major environmental damage that can source from this investment.
